Something is happening at Reasons to be Cheerful — a special project that will run until November 2. It’s called We Are Not Divided, and it explores our capacity, and our desire, to bridge divides. Check it out.

For the next six weeks, we’re delving into the many ways people come together through science, politics, technology, religion, social movements and culture. We’re telling these stories through evidence-driven reporting, multimedia and first-person voices, with the same sense of solutions-focused, healthy optimism that always guides us.

Because the truth is, the evidence that we can overcome our divisions is everywhere. It’s in the student groups working to depolarize their college campuses in Corvallis, Oregon; the residents of Victoria, Canada toppling a statue in a way that led to reconciliation rather than strife; and the the Congolese refugees of Syracuse, New York burying burying old rivalries by performing a play.

We will never all want the same thing. But with this project, we hope to show that if we can locate the bridges we’ve already built, we can build more of them.
